Depression

Depression

Secular Definition:   A condition of general emotional dejection and withdrawal; sadness greater and more prolonged than that warranted by any objective reason.  Sadness, gloominess & dejection.

Webster’s Dictionary says this:  A psychoneurotic or psychotic disorder marked especially by sadness, inactivity, difficulty in thinking and concentration, a significant increase or decrease in appetite and time spent sleeping, feelings of dejection and hopelessness, and sometimes suicidal tendencies.

While in a state of depression, it is very possible to not even know that it has set upon you.  Depression is also sometimes identified by a feeling of what many describe as heaviness that has overcome them.  Even though Webster’s specifically identifies depression as a psychoneurotic or psychotic disorder, we know that it is spiritual in nature, brought on by the enemy to steal and destroy the joy of the Lord and gladness in our hearts which is ours, according to the Word of God.

In the Word of God:

"Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad” (Proverbs 12:25).

"O console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified."  (Isaiah 61:3).

Heaviness is the actual ruling spirit or also known as the “stronghold.”  It controls and dictates other spirits such as gloominess, sadness, rejection, despair, grief, fatigue, guilt, self-pity, loneliness, Depression, manic depression, suicide and insomnia to operate in peoples lives.
