Pride

Pride

Secular Definition: Pride, conceit, self-esteem, egotism, vanity, vainglory imply an unduly favorable idea of one's own appearance, advantages, achievements, etc., and often apply to offensive characteristics. Pride is a lofty and often arrogant assumption of superiority in some respect.

Webster’s Dictionary says this:  The quality or state of being proud: as a : inordinate self-esteem : conceit b : a reasonable or justifiable self-respect c : delight or elation arising from some act, possession, or relationship <parental pride>.

So while the world many times tells us to be proud of what we have accomplished, or what we have, or how we are, etc., we know from the Word of God that Pride is actually a sin, and can lead to our downfall and destruction.

In the Word of God:

“These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:  a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood” (Proverbs 6:16-17).

“Pride goes before destruction, and a Haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18).

Haughty is an actual ruling spirit over Pride, also known as the “stronghold.”  Many people don’t know that this spirit of haughtiness even exists.  It controls and dictates other spirits such as pride, perfection, accusation, competition, mockery, stubbornness, self-righteousness, gossip, boastful, sarcastic and critical to operate in peoples lives.
